As agents of change, we’ve switched things up in the laboratory. To celebrate this period of change, we’ve sat down with Hannah Findlay to see how her secondment into the Research and Development (R&D) department aligns with the continual growth of Antibody Analytics.
“From a young age, I was obsessed with all things medical. I took this fascination and applied it into a Master of Science in Medical Genetics and Genomics at the University of Glasgow. Genetics was an up-and-coming field that had begun to understand thousands of diseases and change the way that the world worked.
“Upon graduation in 2017, I did what many scientists do, I weighed up the option of academia and industry. While academia is highly research and discovery focused, I knew that I wanted to feel the immediate impact of clinical application.
“I’ve always been fascinated by the science behind pre-clinical drug discovery and, I guess, that’s why I made the calculated move to TC BioFarm Limited. Wearing the white coat of Process Development Scientist, here, I worked on cellular development for two and a half years. It wasn’t until 2020, that I took the leap to join the Antibody Analytics team.
“My role at Antibody Analytics is in the Operations department as a Study Scientist. While you’re very much stuck on a one-lane track in standard CROs, no day is the same at Antibody Analytics. Responsible for assay development and process technology transfer, the Study Scientist post offers an influx of bespoke molecular biology techniques.
“When I saw the secondment advertised in the R&D department, I knew I wanted to apply the knowledge I acquired from Operations to this opportunity. I moved to R&D in 2021, and I haven’t looked back since. At present, I am designing a system that allows us to test a variety of immuno-oncology drugs.
“It’s certainly rewarding being that step closer to the final product. The secondment has allowed me to confidently drive projects forward from the preliminary stage to customer feedback. Just like my flair for landscape painting, I guess you could say I like to see the full picture, and the R&D department has given me the opportunity to work from the ground up.
“Antibody Analytics is proof that you don’t need academia to be in continual learning. I’m not only evolving my skillset but contributing to team training opportunities throughout the organisation.”
